Major Accomplishments
Ellen's television and film work in the late 1980s and early 1990s included roles on television in Open House and in the film Coneheads. In 1992, producers Neal Marlens and Carol Black casted her in their sitcom Laurie Hill, in the role of Nurse Nancy MacIntyre.
She was the first woman actress/TV personality to come out as openly gay on national television. She received a lot of backlash for this and lost many fans. During this time being gay wasn't socially acceptable. She made such a positive impact in show business and in society, her acceptance of herself and ability to be her true self openly is why she has become one of today's most influential public figures.
Landed the roll of 'Dory' in the now widely successful Disney Pixar animation film, "Finding Nemo".
One of her more obvious successes, the "Ellen Degeneres Show" aired September 8th, 2003. She starred in various other television programs which were all eventually canceled because of low ratings, (her sexuality played a major factor in the shows' decreasing popularity). When the "Ellen Degeneres Show" came along, her fame grew and she soon became a household name. Her show has won more than 30 Daytime Emmy Awards. Ellen is always reaching out and giving to those who deserve and need it.
Her very first book, "My Point... And I Do Have One," published in 1995, charted at number 1 on the New York Times Best Seller list.
By Ellen getting her Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 2012, it was literally set in stone that she had become a huge deal in the industry.
The upcoming Disney Pixar animation film, "Finding Dory", is a spin-off movie centered around DeGeneres' character.
